WHERE IT ALL STARTED

I discovered my love for photography thanks to our daughter. She had a very creative eye and personal artistic style; so about two years ago we thought a DSLR camera would be the perfect gift for her. Colors were everything to her, so our decision about which model to buy was made driven by the camera’s color. We surprised her with a red Nikon D3400 with a matching floral design strap. Unfortunately, in July 2020 our daughter passed away and the camera was stored away in the safe. For me, there came a time when I saw no reason to leave the house, because exploring the streets of Hong Kong was a passion, I shared with my daughter and it was only half as fun without her. One day during the COVID-19 pandemic, I was looking for online courses, but with no clear plan. I still cannot explain my initial motivation, but I enrolled at the course Introduction to Photography at the Rhode Island School of Design. At that point, I was one of the many people who take photos exclusively with their mobile phones. A few days later, after the course started, I found a reason to leave the house again. As I meandered through the streets of Hong Kong equipped with our daughter's red camera, who accompanies me in my mind on all my forays, I captured everything which I could put in front of my lens. The nature of photography allowed me to work through the most emotionally darkest moments in my life. I started to realize a new journey started in my life it was much more than just being out there but be creative and make something that feels exciting.
